Jelayna has practised yoga since 2006.
A lifetime of movement and vigorous sports, including a full athletic rowing scholarship
to the University of Kansas where she earned her degree in Psychology,
lead Jelayna to adore the physical challenge of yoga and how it brought together
the worlds of psychology and physical movement.
More importantly, she came to deeply appreciate the mindfulness
of movement found within the practice. The meditative, spiritual side of yoga is where
the journey really began and continues to this day. It became a way of life on and off the mat.
Jelayna completed her initial 250 hour teacher training at Yogatree Studios. She went on to complete her 100 hour hands on adjustment and Mysore training at Downward Dog Yoga Centre. She can be found teaching at several studios across the GTA as well as providing one on one and group sessions to private clients.
Her daily practice and constant interaction with the lively yoga scene in Toronto keeps her striving to improve her teaching abilities. She is an avid writer and a contributor to “Tonic Magazine”, having written articles for the burgeoning yoga and health conscious community in Toronto.
Jelayna is grateful to the many teachers she has had the privilege to study under, and the students she is honoured to guide each day. Yoga continues to enrich her daily life in body, soul and spirit.
In the busy western world where the encouragement tends to be to push ourselves to the brink, hearing the message of yoga, “Be where you are, work with what you have and consider this an exploration of self” can be a liberating notion compared to “Win at any cost”.
